Ebook covers are easy to create on your own. For people without those skills you can create the covers online or simply outsource the work.
If you have the necessary skills, you could create your own eBook covers. All you need is an art program such as Paint Shop Pro or some other paint program. You can find these programs on line as a free download. Personally, I use PSP to make mine. I have used a program for years for graphic design. I simply open a new file that is 600 wide by 600 tall. Then I add in an image and text and perhaps a tube or two. I save it as a jpg and upload it.
If you create your own covers, you can either create your own images or use your own photographs in your designs. As an alternative, you could scour the internet free photographs or images that are in the public domain and use them in your creations.
Another option you have is to create eBook covers online. There are many websites, which offer free or low cost covers. Occasionally I use this option, because, sometimes the artist inside of me wants to do it myself. My Ecover Maker is a great one to use. There are five free ones to choose from but if you become a member there is a huge amount to choose. I maintain a free account here and find it perfect for my needs.
A third option is to outsource the eBook covers. You could ask a relative or local friend who has the talent do it for you or use one on of the web sites where you can barter or buy work from a freelancer. I have asked a cousin who lives locally and is a great artist to design the cover of my book series. He is local so we can meet in person to discuss plans, progress or ideas and as a family member; I know I can trust him with all the details of my creation.
